I have a list of
YouTube videos that I want my daughters to watch and learn from. But, as you
might expect, simply asking them to watch educational content doesn’t guarantee
they’ll actually pay attention — let alone learn from it.
There are many
tools out there that can enhance the learning experience while watching videos
— such as auto-generated captions, translation support, interactive pauses, or
instant dictionary lookups. Some even let users highlight keywords for review
later or export them into flashcards.
While these
features are fantastic for motivated learners, they don’t always work for kids
who aren’t naturally inclined to study. My girls, for instance, feel that these
tools take the fun out of watching videos — and they’re definitely not
self-driven when it comes to learning.
So, what’s the solution?
I needed a way to
make sure they not only watched the videos but also paused to check their
understanding along the way. After trying several tools, I found a workflow
that actually works using two free (and powerful) tools:
🔧 The Tools I Use
- Diffit – Ideal for
extracting readable, structured content from YouTube videos that have
closed captions. It automatically generates vocabulary lists,
multiple-choice questions, and other learning activities from video
transcripts.
- EDCADE AI – Great for
turning text content into interactive quizzes, chatbots, flashcards, and
assignments. It also makes it easy to assign tasks and track responses.
✅ My 3-Step Workflow
Step 1: Use
Diffit to generate text-based learning materials
Start by copying the YouTube video link into Diffit. It will generate:
·
A readable summary or transcript
·
Vocabulary lists
·
Comprehension questions (e.g. multiple choice or short answer)
Step
2: Use EDCADE AI to turn the content into interactive quizzes
Take the text from Diffit and paste it into EDCADE AI. This tool can create:
- Quizzes
- Flashcards
- AI Chatbots
for interactive learning
- Assignments
tailored to the topic
Step
3: Share the quiz link with your learners
Once the assignment is created in EDCADE AI, simply share the link. My kids
can:
- Watch the
video
- Answer the
questions
- Instantly
see their results
This gives me a
way to track their progress and makes sure they're actively engaging with the
content — not just passively watching.
Step
4: Final Check and Review
One of the features I love about EDCADE
AI is that it gives me a clear overview of my kids’ progress. I
can see which questions they got right or wrong, how much time they spent on
each activity, and identify areas where they might need more help.
This final review step helps me stay involved in their learning
process — without needing to hover over them while they work.
Want
to Try It Yourself?
Both Diffit and Edcafe AI are free to use (with basic features) and easy to get started with. To get you
started, I’ve created a list of YouTube videos on Chinese
Traditional Festivals. Feel free to explore the links and test
out the workflow yourself — or use them with your own students or kids.
